I strongly believe in the power of art and perhaps, more than ever, in our current era, so-called "Communication Age”, I believe that there is a need to communicate & express ourselves through art. Art has the power to spread messages whilst bringing human values back that somehow seem to be lost. Art has the extraordinary super power to transform people's lives, to heal wounds and it makes us think & feel. I want to believe that it can unite us too. Art has been & it is for me a source of self-expression & self-discovery and I attempt to express a message through my art practice even if that means putting my vulnerabilities to the fore. My work connects with aspects of culture, society & human nature, in which human, woman, object, subject, maker & signifier are the point of departure for aesthetic investigation.
As an artist, I am interested in many things, but I am fascinated with the anatomy of the body as a physical subject & object of beauty. This fascination is what makes me come back to my studio day after day to examine relationships & aesthetics through my artwork. My latest series is a contemporary representation of the female body as the normative discourse of female beauty. The central part of my work explores more complex ideas. Both, behaviour and the complex & unique qualities of human beings are subjects that offer a great opportunity to investigate the possibilities of subjects. The goal is to create work that engages with concepts beyond what is visible. I find my inspiration from mundane experiences, relationships & nature.
In my work, there is a strong narrative with identity, gender & sexuality. Being a woman should be celebrated, as we all women share a connection, so to me, we are all part of the same movement. The narrative of my work has evolved considerably and the depicting of my subjects has become more subtle.
I like to experiment with different media, but mostly I work with oil paint. My work is not limited to painting or figuration, it speaks a language of self-expression. The creative journey is a long one, as I see the work emerging and evolving, this is a process breaking through individualisation, but still like a puzzle, each piece forming part of the same journey. Overall my artwork is a personal investigation towards understanding life and my tool along my spiritual awakening journey. It is being a lifelong pursuit to understand life's relationships in this world and how to evolve to become my best version.
I hope it brings you some joy or emotions, if not at least inspiration to be looking at my work and please do not hesitate in contacting me if there is a piece of artwork that speak to you, which you may want to take home.
