I strongly believe in the power of art and perhaps, more than ever, in our current era, so-called "Communication Age”, I believe that there is a much bigger need to communicate & express ourselves through art. Art has the power to spread messages whilst bringing human values back that somehow seem to be lost. Art has the power to transform people's lives, to heal wounds and it makes us think & feel. I want to believe that it can unite us too. Art has been & it is for me a source of self-expression & self-discovery and I attempt to express a message through my art practice even if that means putting my vulnerabilities to the fore. My work connects with aspects of identity, culture, gender, sexuality & society, in which human, woman, object, subject, maker & signifier are the point of departure for aesthetic investigation.
As an artist, I am interested in many things, but I am fascinated with human anatomy and the analytical & psychological discourse of beauty & mind. This fascination is what makes me come back to my studio day after day to examine relationships & aesthetics through my artwork. My latest series is no just a contemporary representation of the aesthetics of the body as the normative discourse of female beauty, but it is also a celebration of flesh & body through application of layers of colours that celebrates the strength of character of women in general, and the woman artist in particular representing anatomy freely. Being a woman should be celebrated, as we all women share a connection, so to me, we are all part of the same movement. I aim to find harmony and balance in my life whilst using the aesthetics of the artwork to find resolution to some life events and concepts that preoccupy me in society. My intention as an artist is to bring the gap between women and art since we live in a man’s art world and therefore to provoke some change whilst attempting to overcome the imperfections of this unequal society we live in.
The narrative behind my work examines concepts and aspects of the social, political and psychological on human beings from a female perspective. The goal is to create work that engages with concepts beyond what is visible to the eye. The narrative of my work & the style has evolved considerably whilst the depicting of my subjects has become more subtle.
