Human Animal Series | M.A.L.Huguet | Gallery
"I gaze into the eyes of the Woman Animal and see my own reflection staring back at me from the very animal body I inhabit,
yet simultaneously deny."

yet simultaneously deny."

The Human Animal series emerges from a deep fascination with mythology and fiction, exploring the possibilities of hybrid figures that blend human and animal traits. These metaphorical creations serve as reminders of our primal nature, embodying the outsider creature that challenges societal norms. Hybrids are often perceived as unnatural and monstrous, provoking discomfort as they confront us with the reality of our own animalistic instincts.
This series invites viewers to reflect on the complexities of identity and the often-difficult acknowledgment of our shared animal condition. The artwork was developed during my postgraduate studies in fine art and was featured in my master's degree show, accompanied by a dissertation on the same subject.

The Minotaur Woman Live Performance
|
Degree Show Ashford 2009
|
The concept of strength and vulnerability delves into how these seemingly opposing traits influence our lives. Strength embodies resilience, while vulnerability signifies openness; both are crucial for personal growth.
Embracing vulnerability allows for authentic connections, reminding us that even those who appear strong confront their own challenges. This duality mirrors our experiences in the world and our relationships. The Minotaur Woman personifies this duality, highlighting the complexities of identity and acceptance. The assertion that the Minotaur was a man is a perspective shaped by another man. |
